Public Information Under Fire

What is it like to be a public information officer in a situation literally under fire? In Case Two beginning on Page 25 in Writing Winning Proposals PR Cases, students take turns reading reports as news broadcasters to feel vicariously the urgency of communicating in a rapidly developing situation threatening life and property. The case gives students insight into a seldom considered career area shown by this experience with C.J. Norvell, public information officer for the federal Southeast Interagency Incident Command. The case is described by the author who became a victim of the Black Crater Wildfire in Central Oregon.
